Effective counselling can help reduce confusion in certain areas of life and increase a person’s capacity to tolerate strong emotions, allowing them to make more effective decisions leading to positive changes in their attitude and/or behaviour. Effective counselling is not advice-giving and is not acting on someone else’s behalf. The ultimate aim of counselling is to enable the client to make their own choices, reach their own decisions and to act upon them accordingly.

Michelle is a manual therapist studying at the Canadian School of Osteopathy Manual Practice in her fourth and final year of study. Her approach to therapy is informed by years of post-secondary study, athletic conditioning, and self-study of various healing modalities.

Previously, Michelle worked as a registered nurse primarily with maternity and pediatric populations, but after experiencing burnout and witnessing patients struggle with chronic pain and illnesses, she transitioned to manual therapy to focus on proactive health and wellness. After personally experiencing the benefits of osteopathic manual therapy, Michelle is committed to helping clients find their inherent health and wellness. Her goal is to identify the root cause of your concerns to prevent pain and symptoms from returning.

Manual therapy treatments utilize an osteopathic approach that gently mobilizes joints, muscles, fascia, organs, and cranial membranes to ease pain and restrictions while improving wellness. Treatment styles and techniques may include gentle joint mobilization, cranial tension balancing, myofascial release, trigger point release, targeted muscle activation, and visceral (internal organs) techniques.

I’ve been lucky enough to call the incredible town of Rossland my home for a whopping nine years! This place is my playground, and you can often find me shredding the trails on my mountain bike, conquering epic hikes, gliding down the slopes on my snowboard.

I’m not just a yoga-loving adventurer. I’m also a fourth-year psychology student, delving into the fascinating world of the human mind. My ultimate goal? To become a clinical counsellor and help others navigate the twists and turns of their inner worlds.

I’m beyond excited to share my passion for the mind-body connection with our incredible community. Yoga is my jam, and I believe it’s a powerful tool for finding balance, cultivating self-awareness, and embracing our true selves. Jess became a mother in 2019, but has been dedicated to the birth of mamas, dadas and babies for the last decade. She began her support role (as an unofficial doula) when she attended the birth of her second nephew back in 2012. Since then she became fascinated with the magic of childbirth and the unfathomable power of the female body. With a strong desire to ‘change the world,’ Jess decided that by touching the lives of as many families as she could, the impact she longed for could be achieved. Birthing a child opens up doors to so many decisions, lifestyle changes, and incredible opportunities. By consciously equipping pregnant women and birthing partners with essential knowledge and intentional skills, Jess positively influences these powerful shifts in people’s lives. Whether it be one prenatal education session, or an entire labour and postpartum experience that you share with her, it is guaranteed that the time you spend together will shine brightly on your journey into parenthood.

Kat Loose has trained as a yoga instructor, traditional postpartum doula and circle facilitator. She has a particular fondness for the science of neuroplasticity as well as the nervous system and is perpetually pursuing further studies in these areas along with her studies in the field of education. It was through Kat’s own mental health challenges that her yoga practice became a reliable friend, a place to return to her body and breath, escaping the painful ruminations of the mind. She is not an expert nor a therapist and it is in service to her community that she humbly offers this workshop duo.
